WEDNESDAY DRAWING AND PAINTING for PUBLISHING w Shea Proulx 10:30am–12pm
Art Class Description:
Come expand your view of what is possible in book-arts! Join us whether you’re a pro or just starting to think about the possibilities of publishing. Bring your work in progress for trouble-shooting, or start from scratch and find inspiration in new materials or processes. We can shoot for any scale for reproductions, from DIY self-publishing and one-of-a-kind books, to prepping work for printers, or even preparing submissions to publishers. Specialists in any area are welcome to attend to refine their craft, expand their portfolio, and network with other book-craft artisans.
Bring your own supplies, or for a small use-based fee borrow mine. We’ll discuss the perks and pitfalls of utilizing all manner of traditional art materials – pencils, inks, paints, and different paper-types - and examine ways we can supplement classic fine-arts methods with digital edits. Contact Shea about supplies included cost tailored to your needs.
$120 (4 weeks) plus gst. no supplies

Bio
Shea Proulx has a BFA from Emily Carr University and an MFA from the University of British Columbia. Through tracing and repetition, Shea constructs autobiographical visual narratives that transcend the boundaries of individual lived experience. Her books ABC Monstrosity and Alice at Naptime were both nominated for the Best Illustrated category by the Alberta Book Publisher’s Association, and Alberta Comics: Home, which she co-edited and did the cover art for, won the award in 2023. Among the Fine Arts galleries that Shea’s paintings and installations have been exhibited are The Morris and Helen Belkin, The Alberta Art Gallery, TRUCK, and Contemporary Calgary. As Vice-President on the board of directors for Panel One, a Calgary/Mohkinstsis based comics festival, Shea helps put the spotlight on local, original sequential artwork. Her two daughters and husband, artist Ryan Proulx, routinely make her laugh so hard she spits.
